I love my girl

I'm waaaaay behind on blogging but that's ok right?!?!?! I knew I'd be back....eventually. =0)
The break did some good though b/c while I was away it looks like the entire posting
format has changed.

It's a million times easier to upload pics now.

So I can't be to blame for loading way too many pics of Mother's Day.
It's just so easy!

I can't stop myself. =0)
We celebrated Mother's Day the whole weekend, starting off Saturday by waking up early
to go to Starbucks then Watter's Creek and duck watch.

You know...before the throngs of shoppers and diners scared them all away haha.
It really was fun. We climbed over a bunch
of rocks before we saw a sign saying not to climb the rocks.
Whoopsies.
At 11 once the stores opened we went to Anthropologie and Haley found
this cute pillow she thought would be a fun costume.
It was only $180 so, you know, we did not get it.

This was the last pic I got b/c Haley only smiles for the camera for so long until
she's over it. =0)
So I put the camera away for the day.

But Sunday I busted it back out again for our second duck watching adventure in Twin Creeks.
We actually just randomly stopped here to eat ice cream cones
and ended up having a really good time.

More duck momma and babies.

The men went off on their own for some guy time. :)
The sun was going down and it was just so pretty. I should
get out more at sunset and take pics.

It gets miserably, terribly, unbearably hot during the summer
so we have to enjoy these times outdoors as much as possible before June heat hits.
From June through July we pretty much stay inside, under the fans or with our faces in the freezer door, only coming outside to go to the pool.

Sleeping ducks. They weren't at all afraid of us.

We fed them bread. Whole wheat of course. =0)
Sweet little duckies.
Me and Haley love animals. To death. We love talking for them and thinking out
loud for them. =0)

Eddie was working so we went out for lunch on Monday afternoon to the Cheesecake
Factory in Watters Creek with him.
Funky white fish in the water...

Looking for the funky white fish again.
 My sweet beautiful girl.
Truly she is the best gift I've ever been given.

 More pretty pictures...

Cannot believe she is nine years old.
Time is just flying by.

This blog is probably going to be more of a lifestyle blog/journal now.
I'll still post decorating pics and ideas and projects, but also family stuff
and just whatever my little heart desires. =0)

Have a great week!!

Trash to treasure

Quite a long time ago on my way to the gym I saw this dresser out on the road for trash pickup.
I immediately came back home and asked the hubs to help me load it.
Amazingly he obliged even though he had to be at work soon,
and I had myself a project to keep me busy.
Which in the end was probably in his favor as I tend to get bored often. =0)

And so, very gradually as months went by I finally completed it,
and ended up selling it on Craigslist.

In the before pics you can see I've used wood filler on the top drawer.
There was a pineapple-y carving in it that I felt wouldn't go
too well with the shabb-ifying I was planning to do with it. After that I lightly sanded it, spray primed it, and used a sponge roller to paint with.
I had an old can of white paint I got in the oops dept at Home Depot and just used that.
I sealed it with water-based polyurethane so it won't yellow.
I also did some light distressing on the edges.

All of the hardware was in good condition with the exception of the knobs on the top drawer, (one was missing), so I bought two cheapo silver knobs, spray painted all hardware black, and slapped them back on.

I kind of wish I had kept it but I wanted to see if it would sell, which it did.
Once garage sale season hits I will be out I will be out in full force trying
to score some cheap furniture to redo, perhaps for myself or to sell.
Well I'm off to wake up my daughter for school.
Check out my Parties page for all of the fun blogs I will be linking to.

Have a great week!

I know I’ve been away…

But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing any painting or decorating. Just taking a little break I guess. Haven’t been inspired to write maybe. But I’m still here and I know you miss me. :) I’ve been on Pinterest a LOT lately. Probably my new fave hobby. Have you been on it yet?

You type in what you want to see, and voila, hundreds of pictures. For the image above I typed ‘white walls’ into search, and found that pic which I love. And it’s so easy to blog pics too. No more going into computer files and copying, pasting, and uploading. With pinterest you can right click the image, highlight copy image and come right back to your post and copy it. Amazing.

Since I’ve been lazy and haven’t taken any pics of what I’ve been up too lately, I’m using this image to show you what color I painted my pantry.

The prettiest blue you ever did see. =0) I’ve been wanting to do it forever and finally one afternoon I mixed up some paint and did.
The reason I was searching white walls in Pinterest is because I’m considering painting my master bedroom white.

We have black furniture that’s a little more modern than I’d like. I think painting the walls white will make it more casual and cottagey. Plus I can bring it whatever colors I want as accents. I’ve been wanting to paint a room white for a while so this might just be the ticket. =0)

I’m also considering sanding the furniture down quite a bit. That way the black finish isn’t so clean and crisp. We’ll see. And I’ve already told the hubs about it and he said it sounds like a great idea. And even though he grimaced while trying to sound supportive, I’m going take that as a go-ahead. =0) Wouldn’t you??
Have a great week!!

Pretty shelves

Last week I posted about the two shelves I re-did in each of my bathrooms. My favorite is #1. I just love the crisp black frame against the white distressed shelf and the gray paint color behind it.

Today I was looking at some pics in my inspiration file. Thought I’d share some of my faves. Notice shelves are the recurring theme here. =0)

Love this pic…especially the light fixtures.

Love this black light fixture above the sink…must think about doing something above mine now. Also love the two-toned cabinets and that one lone shelf to hold the basics.

I think what I like most about this image is the white against that paint color. Plus the shelves are pretty cool.kitchen-open-shelving

I’m sure you’ve already seen Lauren’s from Pure Style Home. Love everything about this pic. Cottage+industrial+modern+lazy dog=PERFECTION! =0)

I really need to plant me some Peonies. Wonder if those babies grow in Texas? They are so fat and round!

Love it!

There’s so many more I could keep going forever, but I need to get up and do something of my own!!

Shelf-ishness…

Hello lovie-bears!! I’ve missed you! Things have been a little crazy over here this past month, but I’ve done a few minor decorating changes I want to show you. Both involve shelves (note the genius play-on-words in the title eh? lol) that are almost identical. Tell me which one you like better!
Shelf #1
Remember this shelf from way back when?
DSC02808
Well I recently painted the master bathroom a grayish blue color, and decided the shelf décor needed an update since the blue’s on the shelf kind of clashed with the new paint.
IMG_5872
I love this paint color. I spend extra long in the lieu just so I can admire it. =0)
IMG_5874
I especially love it against the crisp white and black. The frame I got at the Dollar Tree, sprayed it black, and printed out the rhyme at the library since we ran out of ink at home oh…about two months ago. =0) The miniature urn was .99 cents at Goodwill, and the mercury glass bird holds a tea light and is actually supposed to be a Christmas decoration but who cares! =0)
IMG_5870
I can’t remember where I got the q-tips or cotton balls, but any local grocery store or nationwide supercenter should have them. lol! (Sorry, totally cracked myself up there!!!!)
----------------------------------------------------------------
Shelf #2
The second shelf is also from Goodwill, and it just got painted this week. Same treatment as the first…light sanding, sprayed with Rustoleum’s semi-gloss white, then lightly distressed. I hung it in the guest bathroom, which is still in the process of being painted. Hmmm, I’ve been busier than I thought! =0)
IMG_6072
(Sorry for the bad picture here. I had a really, really, really hard time trying to get a good shot because there is only one light source and it’s directly above but slightly to the left of the shelf, so it casts weird shadows on it. Plus, there’s no window in here so that means absolutely zero natural light. Boo.)
IMG_6078
I love the paint in here too. It’s kind of a sky blue color with a hint of gray in it. The frame I made, (click here to visit my Etsy shop!) the glass with Cooper in it was an old pasta jar, and the cotton ball thing was from Ikea and I just stamped it.

Try not to stare at my hot babe legs in the pic below. hahaha. ;0D

So what do you think? Do you like shelf 1 or 2 better?
I’ll tell you my fave later this week!!
Check out my parties page for all the place I’ll be linking up to this week.
Thanks for reading!!!!
